Featured Pet of the Month

 Abby

Abby is a darling girl! She appears to be a whippet mix about 5 years old. She is 45 pounds, with short hair, has been spayed, up to date on all shots, heart worm negative and micro-chipped. She is sweet and loving. Abby would do best in a quiet home with an adult female with a fenced yard. She is nervous around men and startles easily. She is a love-bug with other dogs and human females. And once she gets to know them, is a sweetie with men. Dont let her on the bed! Shell push that long nose under your hand and lift it up until you start to pet her. She uses a dog door and has never had an accident in the house. Abbys name should be changed to Rotor. She has a tail as long as her body that rotates in a big circle when she wags it. When she is happy, she smiles and raises the left side of her lip. She looks like an Elvis impersonator! For more information, call Nancy Guilliom (502-829-0924) or email: nguilliom@hotmail.com

Please Show your support for House Bill 273.
The bill addresses forfeiture/ownership of animals in animal cruelty cases.

To forfeit ownership of animals involved in cruelty and torture cases and prohibit ownership or possession of animals of the same species for two years.

Here is the link to the bill:  http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/12RS/HB273.htm

It is important that this bill move out of committee. Representative  Crimm has been the sponsor on this bill for many years and each year it never moves forward to being heard on the floor. Call your representatives in the House and Senate and show your support. Call 800 372 7181. This is the number for the KY Legislative Desk.  They will ask your name and your address and ask what your call is pertaining to. All you have to do is telll them you support HB 273 and you want the legislators to do the same. THATS IT. Simple. But you have to call and show your support. Lets make this the year it passes. Remember the Henry CO horder/breeder case from this past December? Lets make sure our laws have some teeth to them. SHOW YOUR SUPPORT. I cannot stress how important this is.

About The Shelby County Humane Society

About The Shelby County Humane Society

Please come see us and adopt your new best friend today! The Shelby County Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill shelter located in Shelbyville, Kentucky. "No-kill" means animals stay with us or in foster homes until they are adopted. No animal is euthanized unless it is medically necessary. Our work includes rescue of homeless animals, pet adoptions, a spay/neuter program and humane education. It is our goal to provide these services to the best of our ability in the hope that we can significantly reduce the number of unwanted and homeless animals in our community, as well as educating the public about responsible pet ownership. We gratefully accept donations and any volunteer time you have to offer.

The Shelby County Humane Society is a group of people who love animals. We are a society because we share these common beliefs:

We believe it is morally wrong to kill companion animals just because there are "too many of them".

We believe that it is part of the responsibility of all human beings to be kind and take care of animals. Consequently, if there are more animals than homes, we have a responsibility to control the population by spaying and neutering these animals so they do not continue to multiply.

We believe that it is reasonable to require by law that people take care of their animals, which includes providing proper housing, veterinary care and having them spayed and neutered unless they are excellent specimens of their breed and being bred with the intention of improving their breed.

We believe that the humane way to handle feral cats is to trap them in live traps, spay/neuter and vaccinate them to be returned to an area where someone has agreed to feed and watch over the group.  Please visit Operation Catsnips website and help  to control the feral cat population in Shelby Co KY.

Our vision is to build a facility that will provide a safe haven for lost, abandoned and displaced animals. We hope that it will be a place where all animal lovers can come to see the animals in a cageless environment which is centered on the physical and emotional needs of the animals and the people who love them.
